Nationwide, there are about 33 colleges that are affiliated with American
Indian tribes. These colleges explicitly state in their missions a commitment
to serving American Indian students and their communities are commonly
referred to as Tribal Colleges. These institutions have played a vital
role in providing access and opportunity in higher education for students
of American Indian descent.
There were four Tribal Colleges actively involved with PFF. These institutions
were important partners in the PFF programs. With their unique missions
and campus cultures, the Tribal College partners allowed doctoral students
to experience faculty life in an environment very different from the
one on their research university campus.
